Principal / Senior Analog & Mixed Signal Engineer
🔧 Principal / Senior Analog & Mixed Signal Engineer
📍 Boston, MA (Hybrid, 3 days onsite)
💰 From $160,000 base + competitive equity
Our client is a well-funded, venture-backed deep tech startup based in Boston, MA, building a fundamentally new class of computing hardware. The company harnesses naturally occurring thermal noise in standard CMOS devices to perform ultra-low-power probabilistic computation, with the potential for order-of-magnitude power savings over conventional AI acceleration approaches.
Founded in 2022 by engineers with a background in advanced quantum computing research, the company has grown to around 30 people and has just taped out its third chip. It is now defining the architecture for three further chips, giving this hire genuine ground-floor influence over the product roadmap.
The Role
Two levels are open on this search:
- Principal Analog/Mixed Signal Engineer — 6+ years’ experience, potential design lead for one of three upcoming chips
- Senior Analog/Mixed Signal Engineer — 2 to 5 years’ experience, block-level design ownership
Both will lead or contribute to the design of analog and mixed-signal blocks (ADCs, PLLs, bandgaps, regulators, high-speed SerDes, oscillators and dividers), carry out hands-on layout and verification (DRC/ERC/LVS), and collaborate closely with the systems, physics and algorithms teams to translate novel probabilistic computing concepts into silicon.
What Good Looks Like
- Strong analog background with genuine mixed-signal experience (high-speed SerDes, PLLs, oscillators, dividers) — pure analog candidates are considered but mixed-signal exposure is preferred
- Solid CMOS foundation; experience at FinFET or sub-28nm nodes is a plus but not essential
- Multiple tape-outs, with genuine transistor-through-system level circuit analysis (small signal, feedback, stability)
- Hands-on layout experience, or at minimum a willingness to do layout in a startup environment
- Comfortable with unglamorous, broad-scope work typical of an early-stage hardware team
- Background from leading analog/mixed-signal or major semiconductor design houses is well regarded (examples on request)
Location and Working Pattern
- Boston, MA — hybrid, 3 days per week in the office
- Relocation candidates will be considered
Visa
The role requires access to information subject to US export control regulations (EAR/ITAR). Sponsorship and visa transfers (e.g. OPT, H1B transfer, new H1B, TN) have been supported for the right candidate previously, but this is confirmed case by case.
Interview Process
- Technical phone screen (1 hour) — brief company overview and candidate background, followed by 45 minutes of deep technical questioning
- On-site interview (full day, Boston) — panel of five, assessing circuit intuition and cultural fit
Why This Role
This is a genuinely ground-floor opportunity to shape the architecture of a new computing paradigm, working across a small, highly technical team spanning IC, systems, physics and algorithms. Full company details shared on confirmed interest.
