AWS DevOps Engineer with strong SRE skills to join a busy BAU operations team. You’ll be responsible for keeping mission-critical platforms stable, secure, and performant while continually improving automation, observability, and reliability.
This is a hands-on contract role working across AWS, containers, IaC and CI/CD tooling. Ideal for someone who enjoys owning environments end-to-end and thrives in a fast-paced, production-focused setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Support and enhance AWS-based production platforms in a BAU/SRE capacity
- Operate and optimize containerised workloads using AWS ECS and Kubernetes (K8)
- Design, maintain and improve Infrastructure as Code using Terraform
- Implement and maintain configuration management via Ansible and Puppet
- Build, maintain and troubleshoot CI/CD pipelines (GitHub-based workflows)
- Own and improve monitoring, logging and alerting using Grafana (and related tools such as Prometheus/CloudWatch)
- Define, track and improve SLIs/SLOs and error budgets to drive reliability
- Participate in incident management, root cause analysis and post-incident reviews
- Contribute to security, backup, DR and cost-optimisation best practices on AWS
- Work closely with developers, QA and other stakeholders to ensure smooth releases and stable environments
Key Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Strong, recent experience as a DevOps Engineer/SRE in production AWS environments
- Hands-on experience with:
- AWS ECS
- Terraform for Infrastructure as Code
- Ansible and/or Puppet for configuration management
- Grafana for dashboards and observability (Prometheus, Loki, CloudWatch etc. a plus)
- GitHub (Actions or other CI/CD tooling built around GitHub)
- Solid knowledge of Linux systems, networking and security fundamentals
- Experience running and supporting 24/7 production systems (on-call or out-of-hours incident support a plus)
- Strong understanding of SRE principles – SLIs/SLOs, error budgets, incident management, capacity planning
- Good Scripting skills (eg Python, Bash, or similar) for automation and tooling
Nice to Have:
- Exposure to GitOps approaches (eg ArgoCD, Flux)
- Kubernetes, EKS
- Familiarity with AWS security best practices and compliance frameworks
- Experience in high-availability, high-traffic environments
Contract Details
- Length: 3-month initial contract, likely contract until at least end 2026
- Extensions: Strong possibility of long-term extensions based on performance and project needs
- Rate: Market rates, outside IR35
- Engagement: Outside IR35, 2 days week ideally on site, West London
